A couple of nights ago, Katie was "composing" a new song. She was singing about Jesus and His mommy and daddy. I asked her, "Katie, who is Jesus's daddy?"
"Will you tell me?" she asked.
"God is Jesus's daddy," I replied.
"So there are two Gods?"
"No. There is only one God, but Jesus and His daddy are both God."
"So there are two Gods."
"No. Just one. But it's really hard to understand. Mommy doesn't understand either."
How do you explain the trinity to a two-year-old child? Can anyone explain it to me?

I've heard of an apple being used. You have the skin, the eatable part, and the core - all 3 are the apple, but different. Not perfect theology, but it's a start.
along with the apple, i've also heard of the egg analogy. but you're right - it is awfully hard to explain something that we hardly understand ourselves!
You can go with the water analogy - Steam, Water, and ice, but they are all still the same substance. You can even avoid the heresy of modalism by explaining that they are all present at 0.0098 °C and 611.73 pascals. Ok, maybe in a year or two :)
Greetings
Truly, as the Scriptures say ...
Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?
And a little child shall lead them.
[Matt 21.16, Isa 11.6]
Little Katie in her childlikeness [Luke 18.17] truly does "understand" who GOD and Jesus is!!!
There is solely ONE GOD, the Father.
The Lord Jesus is the ONE GOD's Son.
That is indeed what the Scriptures teach.
And it would be wrong to teach her otherwise.
You see, the so-called trinity is a manmade concept, which neither Christ nor his disciples ever taught.
This concept was foisted on Christianity hundreds of years after the ascension of Christ.
But from the beginning of Christianity, it was not so!
Jesus & the early church always taught that there is solely ONE GOD, the Father.
(1 Cor 8:4) ... that there is none other God but one.
(1 Cor 8:6) But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; ...
Jesus himself defined the Father
as the only true GOD.
[John 17.3]
What was Jesus as a child taught concerning who GOD is?
He was taught the Shema,
(Deu 6:4-7) Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: 5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. 6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
The above is the creed of Jesus as confirmed in Mark 12.28-34 as the first of all of the commandments.
Note the scribe's response:
(Mark 12:32) And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:
It ought to be obvious then that neither Jesus nor the scribe were trinitarian. They knew no such concept.
They recognized solely ONE GOD, YAHWEH; whom Jesus called "Father."
Therefore, seeing that this was Jesus' creed; as Christians, it ought to be our creed as well as Katie's creed.
Then who is Jesus?
(John 20:31) But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
(Acts 2:36) Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
(1 Cor 8:6) But to us there is ... one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
(1 Tim 2:5) For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
The man Jesus of Nazareth is the "one man" whom GOD Almighty raised from the dead and made, both Lord & Christ.
Therefore Jesus is the Lord Messiah,
[Luke 2.11, Col 3.24]
the Son of the ONE GOD, the Father.
[2 John 3]
So it is really as simple as Katie stated it.
"God is Jesus's daddy,"
and there is only one God.
Jesus is the son of the ONE GOD.
Therefore, Mom, Dad;
Please reconsider, seeing the great responsibility (as highlighted in Deut 6:7) in teaching children.
I encourage you, both as truthseekers, to consider the difference between Jesus' creed and the so-called trinity.
Therefore, I implore you to take a couple of hours and watch this video at
The Human Jesus
Be Berean about the points made in the video; that is, go back to the Scriptures, to see if the things said in the video are indeed so.
May GOD bless your every endeavor to do so, as we grow through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord. Amen!
Yours In Messiah
